The general fund received a $576,758 cash infusion this week from the attorney general's "special fund."

Attorney General Brian Sandoval said the money consists of awards, damages and civil penalties collected for Nevada and its agencies through enforcement of unfair trade practices laws. He said the office keeps $250,000 in the account to enforce those statutes but sends everything over that amount to the general fund.

"We're pleased that, at a time when the state sorely needs it, we are able to help with this and our own budget reductions over the next biennium," he said.

Those other reductions include $600,000 in salary savings and $291,340 for the 3 percent reduction Gov. Kenny Guinn mandated for all state agencies.
