Rumors over the weekend that Heavenly Ski Resort was going to close on April 20, a week before its original closing date of April 27, are false, according to Molly Cuffe, the resort's spokesperson.
"No, that is not correct. We've heard that but we're still closing the 27th," Cuffe confirmed on Tuesday.
Heavenly, which received five feet of new snow since Saturday and almost eight feet this month, will be open under limited operations until the 27th. Kirkwood, which has almost received its annual average of 500 inches of snow because of a wet April, and Sugar Bowl will also close the 27th. Two resorts on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, Mount Rose and Northstar at Tahoe, and Sierra at Tahoe on the south shore will close this Sunday.
Alpine Meadows, which has about a 15-foot snow depth at mid mountain, has set a tentative closing date of May 11. Squaw Valley USA, which received 3-4 feet of fresh snow over the weekend, will be the last Tahoe resort to close. The resort near Truckee will stay open until the end of May, conditions permitting.
