Obituary: Elbert Minor

Interment for Elbert W. "Bert" Minor will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the veterans' section of Lone Mountain Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Minor died April 13, 2003, at Mountain View Care Center. He was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Sunset, Texas, to Rufus and Flora Andrus Minor.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy. As a chief boatswain's mate, he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a crewman aboard the USS New Orleans.

Following his retirement from the Navy in 1960, Mr. Minor worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Lynnwood, Wash., as a letter carrier until his retirement. He then moved to the Topaz Lake area.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and do-it-yourselfer. He loved Nevada for its open spaces and abundance of outdoor recreation.

Among his survivors are his wife of 59 years, Mathilda F. "Tillie" Minor; brother, James of Salinas, Calif.; son Richard of Tukwila, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Kathy of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including Mari Webber of Gardnerville and Sue Neeley of Reno; and brother-in-law Jim Kincaid of Carson City.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
