Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon altercation in which two people apparently shot at one another then fled from a Long Street apartment complex.

Carson City deputies arrived in the 2200 block of East Long Street about 2:30 p.m. after people reported seeing two men shoot once at each other at the Foothill Garden Apartments in East Carson, said Detective Scott Davis.

According to witnesses, one man was outside the building and another was inside Apartment D during the second-story shooting from a window.

When police arrived, they were told the gunmen had fled. Inside, police found Jose Zamarippa-Torres, 27.

The apartment tenant, who was at work at the time of the incident, told police she hadn't given Zamarippa-Torres permission to be in the apartment. He was arrested on charges of trespassing and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear on a traffic citation. His bail was set at $1,040.

Davis said witnesses didn't identify Zamarippa-Torres as one of the shooters.

"Basically, what we have here is two people that were shooting guns, and we have no idea who they are or why they were shooting," Davis said. "At this point, nobody's talking."
