Carson softball team splits at Reed Tournament

The Carson High softball team settled for a split at the Reed Tournament on Friday, beating Sparks 10-1 and losing to Reed 4-1.

Against Sparks, the game was called after four innings due to the eight-run rule. Mandy Carvin didn't allow a hit over three innings while striking out six and walking none for the win.

Nichole Monge went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Ariadne Gonzalez was 2-for-2 with two RBI, Natalie Mandoki went 1-for-2 with two RBI, Kaitie Vidovich was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Liz Rankl, Lindsay Farnworth and Beth Henry all added a hit for Carson.

Against Reed, the Senators outhit the Raiders 7-4, but couldn't string their hits together. Carson scored its only run in the sixth inning on Heather Diamond's home run.

Carvin pitched all seven innings for Carson, allowing two earned runs. Henry went 2-for-3 and Lindsey Perondi was 2-for-4 and Farnworth and Gonzalez added a hit for the Senators, who continue play in the tournament at 11 a.m. today against Livermore, Calif. at Shadow Mountain.

DAYTON 6, CARLIN 2

Nicole Greer, Keeli Garcia and Lauren Brown combined to shut down Carlin in the win for the Dayton softball team. Greer struck out four over four innings, winning pitcher Garcia struck out four over two innings and Brown allowed one earned run over two innings.

Rachel Hurt went 2-for-3 with two runs, Lacy Taylor was 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI and Jessie Ayres was 1-for-1 with two RBI and a run for Dayton (15-3-1).

JUNIOR VARSITY

The Carson junior varsity softball team split its two games at the Reed Tournament, losing to Lassen, Calif. 9-7 and beating North Valleys 8-2.

Against North Valleys, Jessica Grant pitched a two-hitter and struck out six for the win. Jamie Yenter and Jessica Ashbaugh each went 2-for-3 and Ashley Miller was 1-for-3. Against Lassen, Kelsey Sweet went 2-for-2, Grant was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Ashbaugh was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Yenter went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
