Selden helps lead Feather River

Fernley's Tyler Selden continued his hot hitting for the Feather River baseball team in a sweep of College of the Redwoods on Friday.

The Golden Eagles (28-7, 17-3 in the Golden Valley Conference) beat Redwoods 10-2 and 7-1 and are three wins away from clinching their third straight conference title. Feather River is ranked No. 3 in the state and if it remains among Northern California's top four teams, it will host a four-team, double elimination regional playoff May 9-11.

The two highest seeds from the regionals will host the best two-out-of-three Northern Super Regionals to be held May 16-18. The two winners of the super regionals will joine the two winners of the Southern Super Regionals for the State Final Four in Fresno.

In the 10-2 win over Redwoods, Selden went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. He was 3-for-4 in the 7-1 win.

On the season, Seldon has started in 31 games and is hitting .326 (31-for-95) with two home runs, 20 RBI, five doubles, one triple and 19 runs.

Other locals for Feather River include Galena High's Byron Cragg, who has yet to give up an earned run 7.2 innings over eight games. He has only allowed two hits and has two saves. Other pitchers for Feather River include Carson High's Tim Priess and Douglas High's Tommy Hoyle.

Douglas High's Cal Lewis has also played in seven games, starting three and is hitting .200 (3-for-15) with three RBI.

Feather River will play this weekend in a doubleheader at College of the Siskiyous. The Golden Eagles will also play at home in Quincy, Calif. at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2 against Redwoods.
