Carson City residents can take a load of garbage to the city dump this weekend or have it picked up for free before Friday as part of the city's community clean-up week.
Carson City Pride Week offers several ways people can get involved in cleaning up their community, said Liz Teixeira, executive assistant. The only drawback to this year's event has been the cold and windy weather.
"With the weather like it is this year, we don't know what we'll get," Teixeira said.
Residents will be able to dump household trash and debris for free Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the city landfill. No commercial loads will be allowed, Teixeira said, but the landfill will accept car batteries, waste oil, up to six tires per resident and antifreeze.
The city will provide garbage bags to any community group that would like to organize a group clean-up activity during the week, Teixeira said. The bags are donated by the Nevada Department of Transportation. Call 887-2100 for information.
City street workers will pick up any bundled trash today and Thursday, including garden debris and tree limbs that are no longer than 6-feet long. Call 887-2345 to schedule a pick up.
A program to rid city streets of inoperable cars will be sponsored again by Great Western Motors who will tow the car away for free. The caller must provide a clear proof of title.
Residents are also allowed to do open burns this week.
