Bruce Jacobsen homers for Cougars

Minden's Bruce Jacobsen homered for the first time this season to help keep Washington State alive, but the Cougars still fell to a 5-3 defeat in 10 innings against Arizona State during Pacific-10 Conference baseball action Saturday night in Tempe, Ariz.

Jacobsen, a senior third baseman, came off the bench as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and slammed a solo home run to right field at Packard Stadium that cut Arizona State's lead to 3-1 at the time. Washington State scored twice in the ninth inning to tie the score, but Arizona State won it in the 10th on Jeremy West's two-run walk-off home run.

Jacobsen is a 1999 Douglas High graduate who spent two seasons at Feather River College before he transferred to Washington State. He is hitting .247 with 10 RBIs this season and the home run on Saturday was his first for the Cougars.

Arizona State shortstop Dustin Pedroia, who spent two seasons with the Carson Capitols summer program, also hit 1-for-3 in the game. Pedroia went 3-for-5 for the Sun Devils in their 21-0 win over Washington State on Friday night.

Arizona State (41-9,9-5 Pac-10) is ranked No. 7 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.
