Residential and commercial building is booming in Carson Valley with many projects nearing completion and tenants lining up for northern Douglas County properties.

AIG Baker Shopping Center Properties of Birmingham, Ala., is developing the Carson Valley Plaza next to Wal-Mart. Leasing representative Fred Reynolds said it has signed several anchor stores for the complex.

Borders Books, Bed Bath & Beyond, CP World Market, Petco, Michael's, Marshall's, Best Buy, Famous Footwear, Pier 1 Imports, Payless Shoes and Anchor Blue are committed to the project.

Reynolds said other tenants, including restaurants, Quizno's Subs, Texas Roadhouse and In-N-Out Burger, have signed purchase agreements for out-pads in the plaza.

The anchor stores are expected begin interior work in July, with grand openings expected in mid- to late October, Reynolds said.

He said the 321,000-square-foot complex "is getting pretty full, but (there are) a few spots open."

Construction continues at the Home Depot/Target complex by DGB Development.

Developer John Serpa has several tenants interested in the area, but they want to remain anonymous until their plans are firm. Paul Starn of DGB said it is negotiating with three to six possible tenants.

Starn added the new businesses could be operational as early as July or August.
