James R. Kaney, 78, a Carson City resident for the past 28 years, died April 29, 2003, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Berkeley, Calif., to James Bennett and Reba Reager Kaney.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Virginia City.
He married Evelyn on Oct. 19, 1974.
Mr. Kaney worked for Aerojet Corp. in California and was involved in the nuclear industry most of his life. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Carson City. He loved camping and being in the mountains. He was an avid football fan and won the Nevada Appeal football picks a few years ago.
HIs survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Carson City; son, Richard Kaney of Chico, Calif; daughters Elizabeth Hale of Rainier, Ore., Carol Kaney of Roatan, Honduras, and Peggy Lord and Kathy Norwood, both of Tomales Bay, Calif.; and sister, Margaret Whitman of Ritzville, Wash.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a World War II veteran.
Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
