Matt Bowman helps lead Sun Devils to title

Matt Bowman's two-run home run was a highlight for the Sierra Sun Devils as they successfully defended their Joe DiMaggio World Series title on Wednesday.


The Sun Devils beat Belmont, Calif. 5-0 in the finals of the tournament in Monterey, Calif. The Sun Devils finished the tournament at 4-0 and finished the summer with a 15-game win streak and at 40-12 overall.


Bowman, of Dayton, hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to extend the Sun Devils' lead to 4-0. Bowman went 2-for-4 and made the all-tournament team.


Ryan Rodriguez was named as the outstanding pitcher and Larry Nistler was named as the most valuable player of the tournament for the Sun Devils. Others who named to the all-tournament team for the Sun Devils were Zach Borba, Iain Dykins, Eric Merson, Willie Meier and Lucas DeLong.


Carson's Willie Bowman, a member of the Sun Devils, missed the last three games of the tournament because he's participating in the Area Code Games, an event for the nation's top high school prospects, in Long Beach, Calif.
