A private memorial service for Cornelius Joseph "Neil" Cahill will be at 1 p.m. today at the family home.
Mr. Cahill died Aug. 4, 2003, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 24, 1923, in New Haven, Conn.
He married Shirley Smith on April 23, 1949. She preceded him in death in August 1995.
Mr. Cahill was a veteran of World War II and served in the 11th Army under Gen. George Patton in Europe. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and campaigns to liberate several concentration camps.
He moved to Reno in 1949, and attended the University of Nevada, graduating with a bachelor's degree in history in 1953.
Among his survivors are his sister, Patricia Kilburn of North Fort Myers, Fla.; children and their spouses Cornelius J. III and Debbie Cahill, Keith-Ann Cahill and Max Montgomery of Carson City and Kevin Michael and Lynda Cahill of Lathrop, Calif.; nephew and wife Dr. Merton "Mike" Alexander Smith III and Dr. Judith Silverstein of Woodbridge, Conn.; grandchildren Michael Sean Cahill and life partner Charles ("Chaz"), Zara Jacinda and Timothy Bickerton, Cornelius Joseph "CJ" IV, Shaina Abigail Cahill and Cody Abraham Cahill, all of Reno; and 18 nieces and nephews.
