120 YEARS AGO

Governor Adams is going to Rubicon Springs to try the water for his stomach trouble. All the river wood drivers at Empire have been discharged, and the wood drive was cleared up yesterday. Pat Lynch, formerly of the Carson Mint, is reported to be an inmate of a California insane asylum.

100 YEARS AGO

Should the average citizen stop to consider the amount of timber that has been buried in the Comstock mines, he would be surprised. Whole forests have been cut to supply the demand, and a hundred different parties have had a hand in the cutting. It was a crime, but that is ancient history. Thousands of train loads of dimension lumber were sent to the mines. Carson River wood drive. One drive had wood corded along the river bank and double tiered from the mills at Empire to the Cook Ranch.

70 YEARS AGO

Four more local firms today joined the NRA; they are Rochon's Cigar Store, Heiden's Garage, the Evelyn Style Shop and the Torrey Shop. " This is a great patriotic movement."

50 YEARS AGO

City Trustees Fill Housing Board, byline by Bill Dolan. Appointed were city councilman Floyd A. Pinger, Ralph Ottini, Legion Post Commander and E.W. Miller, real estate man.

20 YEARS AGO

New officers of Soroptimist International of Carson City are President Joan E. Reid, assisted by Mary W. Luster, Dose and Marilyn A. Stanton, recording secretary.

10 YEARS AGO

Graveside services with military honors for Gracian (Gray) Azparren, 77, of Sparks, lifetime Gardnerville-Reno area resident. 1935 graduate of Douglas High School, letter four years in five sports, tennis champ Western

Division doubles and was on track team that won the state championship. He was with San Francisco Seals, now known as the San Francisco Giants baseball team. He was a heavy equipment operator with Isbell and Helms and served in South Pacific, WW II.
