A bounty of flowers, fruits and vegetables will be displayed Saturday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center Garden Club Flower and Garden Show.
From 1-3 p.m. at the center, visitors can view various categories of arrangements of freshly cut or dried flowers, a combination thereof and fresh fruits and vegetables. Persons of all ages can enter the show.
"As long as it's from the garden, they can bring it in," said Master Gardener Peggy Hill.
"They can bring their fruits and vegetables, too, just no artificial flowers. Any dried or fresh flowers will do."
This is the third year for the show. Hill is a little concerned as the participation numbers aren't yet what they have been.
"We're hoping to get more people. The first show was good, but the second one kind of fizzled. If we don't (get more participants), this may be our last show."
Judging will be in several categories by Master Gardeners.
"It's just a plain, ordinary show," Hill said. "It's an opportunity for anybody to show off and share what they've been growing in their garden. We will have certificates for places awarded, but basically, this is just for fun."
If you have an extra-beefy tomato or exceptionally juicy fruit in your garden, bring them in to show off. Entries are free.
"Each person can take home what they brought," Hill said. "We ask their exhibit be put up before noon and taken home after 3 p.m."
Hill said the most common exhibits are the dried flower arrangements. Some people have used recycled materials, and she calls them "just gorgeous."
"We've had some pretty imaginative flower displays."
