AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- A woman walked down a boat ramp into 10 feet of murky lake water with her two young children, drowning herself and her 4-year-old daughter, police said.
Police found 32-year-old Kennetta Lockhart's Jeep parked beside the lake early Monday with 8-year-old Keonte Langdon inside, throwing up water. He had managed to swim back to shore, Akron Police Lt. Sylvia Trundle said.
The boy was hospitalized Monday in fair condition.
Lockhart's mother and sister had called police just before midnight Sunday to say they thought she was going to drive into Summit Lake because she was upset about a car being repossessed and other money problems. She had a history of depression, family members told police.
Divers pulled her body from the lake about 12:30 a.m. Monday. About a dozen family members were watching from the beach when divers recovered 4-year-old Kayla Langdon's body about nine hours later.
"It was really something to see her little body," Trundle said. "The family was very, very loving and concerned."
"Those people just broke down when they pulled that baby out," said Billy Davis, a park maintenance worker. "I have kids and grandkids. Oh my God, I can't even imagine."
Police hoped to interview the boy as soon as he was able, Trundle said.
"We'll be meeting with family. Everyone is pretty much in shock right now," she said.
About 20 relatives gathered Monday on the front porch of Lockhart's mother, but they were too upset to speak with reporters.
No one was home Monday at Lockhart's house in a quiet neighborhood near downtown. A yellow and orange children's swimming pool sat in the back yard, and dozens of toys were scattered about.
On the front porch, a pair of blue and white boys sneakers lay neatly by the front door.
