Obituary: Kevin Lee Mori

A service for Kevin Lee Mori, 34, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Gardens Chapel in Fallon.

Mr. Mori died Aug. 17, 2003, in Carson City. He was born July 2, 1969, in Chula Vista, Calif.

The family moved to Fallon when he was 3 years old. He attended Churchill County schools and graduated from Churchill County High School in 1987. In high school, he played football and was an all-conference lineman.

He attended West Hills Community College in Coalinga, Calif., for two years.

As a young child, he started his rodeo career competing in junior rodeo, high school rodeo and the PRCA.

In 1986-87, he was Nevada State Champion All Around Cowboy. In 1987, he was Nevada State Champion Bull Rider. He was a two-time national finals rodeo qualifier and on the 1987 All-American Team. In 1988, he was the West Coast Reserve Champion Bull Rider and a college nationals finals rodeo qualifier, the sixth-ranked bull rider in the nation. He was in the pro rodeo for 10 years, competing all over the United States and at the Cow Palace and Madison Square Gardens until he was injured and unable to compete.

Mr. Mori co-owned with his mother the Yellow Unicorn Restaurant on Maine St. for three years. He was involved with his father in the building construction business and later got his contractor's license and Realtor's license. He owned KT Western Production, specializing in custom wood crafting.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Tulio Mori Sr.; grandparents Don and Helen Lennen; and uncles Tulio Mori Jr., Raymond Hudgens and Guy Fletchall.

Among his survivors are his son, Scott D., daughters Brooke C. and Shasta L., father and stepmother Ron and Jackie Jensen Mori and brother Ronald, all of Fallon; mother, Carole Tejada of Dayton; companion, Mary Mathews of Carson City; brothers Cody Mori of McNell, Ariz., and Alex Hines-Mori of Wenatchee, Wash.; sisters Cheri Mathews of Chowchilla, Calif. ,and Susan Tejada of

Dublin, Calif.; grandmothers Mary Mori of Fallon and Tilly Parker of Yucca Valley, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund for his children to Bank of America Account 004966368979, 940 Williams Ave., Fallon, NV 89406.
