Bowmans are named to showcase

Matt Bowman continues to make a name for himself as one of Northern Nevada's best baseball players heading into his senior year at 3A Dayton High.

Bowman was one of 30 players to be chosen for the prestigious Diamond Kings Showcase to be held Sept. 13 and 14 in Fresno, Calif. Bowman's cousin, Willie, a senior at Carson High, was also chosen to play in the showcase.

The Bowmans were among 80 players from Central and Northern California to play in the Northern California showcase this past summer. The Bowmans were the only two players from Northern Nevada to play in the showcase.

They were among the top 30 players chosen to play against the top players from the Southern California showcase. The 30 players will be divided into two teams to play along with two teams from Southern California.

The showcase is designed to be an event in which players can attract the attention of colleges. Matt said he hasn't received much attention yet from major colleges, but that should change if he keeps performing the way he has.

During this past summer's showcase in Fresno, Matt went 4-for-8 with three doubles.

Matt and Willie played this past summer for the Sierra Sun Devils. Matt had an outstanding season as he was named to the all-tournament team at the Joe DiMaggio World Series where the Sun Devils defended their title.

In addition, Matt was named to the all-tournament team in the Fourth of July event hosted by the Sun Devils. He also set a team record this past summer with 16 doubles.

During his sophomore year at Dayton, he hit over .600 with three home runs and made the all-3A state second team. He did even better last season, hitting over .600 again with 12 homers in making the all-3A state first team.
