The Carson City Sheriff's Department offers safety tips to holiday shoppers:
n Don't leave your handbag in your shopping cart.
n If the handbag has a strap, wrap the strap around the metal bar in the upper portion of the cart to secure it.
n Don't let your handbag out of your sight.
n Keep your handbag closed by zipping or snapping it shut.
n When unloading merchandise or groceries from the cart, lock your handbag in your vehicle first then, unload the items from the shopping cart.
