A funeral Mass for Violet Mary McCartney, 96, a Carson City resident for the past year, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mels Catholic Church in Norco, Calif.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Pierce Bros. Crestlawn Funeral Home in Riverside, Calif.
Mrs. McCartney died Dec. 9, 2003, in Carson City. She was born March 30, 1907, in Morland, Kan., to Ireby W. and Mary Warren Jobe.
She lived on a farm with her husband in Briggsdale, Colo., until 1949, then moved to various locations in Colorado, California, Oregon and Nevada. Before moving to Carson City, she lived in White City, Ore.
She married Daniel McCartney in 1926. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. McCartney was a seamstress in the decorating business. She enjoyed crocheting and made more than 100 afghans for family and friends. She loved to dance.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Tom in 2001; brothers Martin Jobe and Walt Jobe; and six grandchildren.
Among her survivors are her son, Jim of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Lake Traverse, S.D.; daughters Charlene Alexander of Jacksonville, Ore., and Arlyne White of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter and son-in-law Gerri and Dick Coyne of Carson City; sisters Clara Kendall of Portland, Ore., Pearl Hogan of Salem, Ore., and Mary Reed of Kingman, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Ruth Foley of Greeley, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery in Riverside.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
