Gloria McHenry Van Epps, a Nevada native, died Dec. 10, 2003, at her daughter's home in Castro Valley, Calif.

She was born Dec. 10, 1934, in Reno. Her family settled in San Leandro, Calif., where she spent the remaining 60-plus years of her life.

She graduated from San Leandro High School.

Mrs. Van Epps was a teacher in the San Leandro Unified School District for 36 years, teaching at James Monroe Elementary School before retiring in 1995. She helped at the Kumon Learning Center in San Leandro. She was a past matron to the Golden Waves Order of the Eastern Star Assembly 103 and on the board of Youth Group Eden Assembly Order for Rainbow Girls and Bethel 175 Job's Daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on July 7, 2003; and mother-in-law Clara Luella Van Epps on Feb. 23, 2003.

Among her survivors are her daughter, Shari Lynne Cannistraci; son, Grant Todd, of San Leandro; granddaughters Chelsea Lynne and Cailey Ann Cannistraci; nieces and nephews Karen Van Epps of Lake Tahoe, David Van Epps of Turlock, Calif., Scott Van Epps of Sacramento and Ross Van Epps of Pleasanton; and many other family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Santos-Robinson Mortuary of San Leandro is in charge of arrangements.
