Cecil Edwin "Ed" Valterra, 64, a Yerington resident for the past 10 years, died Dec. 15, 2003, at South Lyon Medical Center in Yerington. He was born May 10, 1939, in Phoenix to Cecilo and Evelyn Valterra.
He was a longtime resident of Seattle and Bainbridge, Wash., and moved to Yerington after being presented with the opportunity to manage an experimental sheep ranch affiliated with the University of Nevada College of Agriculture.
Mr. Valterra played a major role in the development of a world class merino sheep breeding program while he managed the ranch and made major contributions to the college's academic and research programs. In his honor, the university established the Ed Valterra Memorial Scholarship Fund. Memorial contributions may be made to this fund c/o Jean Carbon, director of Development and Public Relations, College of Agriculture Biotechnology and Natural Resources, 222 Reno, NV 89557-004.
Among his survivors are his wife, Suzanne; and mother, Evelyn Robinson.
