Ruby Ellen White

Ruby Ellen White, 100, died Nov. 26, 2003, at the Gove County long-term care unit in Quinter, Kan. She was born Feb. 28, 1903, in Alton, Kan., to Robert and Belle Graham White. She was the third of 13 children.

She was the first of her family to graduate from college, obtaining a master's degree from the University of Nevada.

Miss White was a long-time resident of Carson City, where she taught first grade for 30 years.

She won the distinguished service award as Teacher of the Year given by the state education association and was involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a published author.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and seven sisters.

Among her survivors are a brother-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Studley, Kan., with burial in the family plot at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
