A celebration of life for Ruth East, 96, a Nevada resident for the past eight years, will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Masonic Temple, 113 E. Washington St., with Dr. Ken Haskins officiating.
Mrs. East died Dec. 23, 2003, at home in Dayton. She was born Jan. 8, 1907, in Indiana.
Before moving to Nevada, she lived in Bedford, Ind., for more than 50 years.
After graduating from Indiana State Teachers College, she taught school and worked for the welfare department. She obtained a master's degree from Indiana University and taught at Springville, Heltonville, Decatur Central and West Washington schools for a total of 28 years.
Mrs. East was active in many professional organizations. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Altrussa (an international women's professional organization), AARP, Retired Teachers Association and Leesville Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Bedford and the First Christian Church of Carson City.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Irvine.
Among her survivors are daughters Marilyn A. Munden of Carmel, Ind., and Carol E. Bauer of Dayton; and granddaughter C. Dianne Parrish and great-granddaughter Sarah N. Parrish, both of Bloomington, Ind.
Her remains will be placed with her husband at Cresthaven Memorial Cemetery in Bedford.
