If the Carson High boys basketball is to compete for a Sierra League championship or entry into the 4A state tournament, they will have to do so without their starting shooting guard.

Ryan Henry suffered a dislocated metacarpal in the index finger of his non-shooting hand and will miss the rest of the season, his father, Carl, said on Wednesday.

"He is done with basketball," Carl Henry said. "If we were to qualify for state, maybe but the doctors are really worried about it healing properly. As much as he is disappointed about this, at least it looks like it won't goof up baseball."

Henry, a two-year starter who helped the Senators win the league title last year, injured his hand in Tuesday's 76-69 win over Douglas. Ryan isn't sure what exactly happened, but he thinks someone's knee jammed his finger. He was taken to the hospital after the game for X-rays later and doctors said that the bone pushed up into his wrist tearing ligaments and also causing internal bleeding.

Henry, who also pitches for Carson High's baseball team, has his finger in a brace and will have it looked at again next week. Doctors said he risks further damage if he tries coming back prematurely, perhaps even resulting in surgery, which could then end his senior season of baseball.

Carson coach Bruce Barnes wasn't available for comment. The Senators take their 14-8 overall and 7-2 league record to Reno on Friday night for a game against Wooster.
