120 YEARS AGO
For the past 48 hours, nearly all of the water pipes in town have frozen up, and it is the most difficult matter to get water, even for cooking purposes. In many instances, people have to travel three or four blocks to get a pail of water, and the amount of very emphatic language indulged in by male members of the families is fearful. The worst feature of the "freeze' is that the pipes of Klein's Brewery are frozen so hard that no beer can be manufactured at present.

Yesterday morning, Warden Henderson turned over the keys of the state prison to Mr. Considine and left the institution in new hands, hands we believe competent. In retirement from a public trust, Mr. Henderson leaves more friends than when he entered into his duties.

New chamber of commerce bylaws reduce dues to 50 cents per month. Mrs. V.E. Maher, H.J. Walker, Arnold Millard, S.C. Bigelow and Charles Kitzmeyer were elected directors.

Chester Wood yesterday was elected president of the eighth grade at Carson High School for the second semester. Serving with him are Bob McCulloch, Margaret Ottini, Bill Oliver and John Armstrong.

Highlight of "Jaycees Week" was the Outstanding Young Men Awards Banquet at the Carson City Nugget. Honored were Steve Mihlic, firefighter; Dwight Dimit, outstanding law officer; educator Dave Harrison; Jim Stanley, religious leader; and Dave Osborn, with multi-community activities.
