Three purported Reno gang members were arrested at gunpoint during a traffic stop in Lyon County that netted $1,300 in methamphetamine and the recovery of a stolen handgun, authorities said.
Jose Gonzales-Ayala, 22; Claudio Arguello-Melgar, 22 and Alfredo Mors, 19, were stopped Thursday by Lyon County deputies on Highway 399 in Mason Valley after authorities received word their 1995 Chevy Blazer was involved in a home invasion. The men allegedly went to the Mason Valley address to collect a debt, but left empty-handed.
According to Sgt. Robert Sherlock, Lyon County Narcotics Unit officer, the three men were the subjects of a four-month cooperative investigation conducted by Lyon County, Reno Police Gang Squad, Washoe County Consolidated Narcotics Unit and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Eight grams of methamphetamine, a .22-caliber handgun stolen from a Mason home and paraphernalia were recovered from the vehicle.
All three men were arrested on suspicion of felony home invasion. Gonzales-Ayala is additionally charged with sale of methamphetamine, unlawful use of methamphetamine, and trafficking. His bail was set at $147,500.
Arguello-Melgar, is also charged with unlawful use of methamphetamine and drunken driving. His bail was set at $53,615.
Mors is being held on a $25,000 bail.
