Obituary: Virgil Millard

A funeral for Virgil Millard, 70, a Carson City resident, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Visitation will be there from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Mr. Millard died Feb. 19, 2003, at home. He was born Aug. 9, 1932, in Alva, Okla., to Gordon and Florence Millard.

He was raised and attended schools in Iowa and graduated from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis.

Mr. Millard was ordained as a minister by the Assemblies of God in 1954. He pastored churches in Iowa, California and Nevada until 1979, when he and his family moved to Carson City, where he worked as building superintendent in his family's construction business.

He participted in church-building missions for the Assemblies of God in three South American countries. For the past year, he had attended, participated in, and occasionally preached at the Wesleyan Church.

He had sung with the Chorus of the Comstock Barbershop Singing Group since moving to Nevada. He was secretary and president of the chorus and participated in all its activities. He sang tenor and baritone in several barbershop quartets, including Partners in Harmony.

Among his survivors are his wife of 50 years, Lois; children Deanna Borges of Carson City, Greg of Berkeley, Calif., Lori Millard-Streeter of Carson City and Scott of Reno; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters Lee White of El Cerrito, Calif., and Nadeen Crawford of Gridley, Calif.; and brothers Vern and Dwight, both of Carson City.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery following the funeral.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
