Historical society to honor 12 women

The Carson Valley Historical Society will honor 12 women at the fourth Women's History Remembering Project, "Carson Valley Women: Sowing Seeds, Planting Ideas" to be held at 2 p.m. March 2 at the Old Gym Playhouse next to the Carson Valley Museum.

Whether they have been teachers, volunteers, ranchers, businesswomen, or homemakers, each woman has been a positive influence on the person who is honoring them.

-- Barbara Galeppi Byington will be honored by her friend, Leola Tucker.

Rhoda J. Jacobsen Chichester will be honored by her son, Ross J. Chichester.

-- Shirley Claire Trimmer Giovacchini will be honored by her daughter, Lisa Ann Lekumberry.

-- Josephine Anna Hellwinkel will be honored by her nephew's wife, Marlena Hellwinkel.

-- Mary Henningsen will be honored by a former student, Carol Yparraguirre Boisson.

-- Catherina Bertha Cordes Lundergreen will be honored by her daughter, Shirley Jones.

-- Mary McCulloch Mack will be honored by her daughter, Maureen Mack.

Irene H. Marshall will be honored by her sister, Deborah Byers.

-- Leona Fillmore-McDonald will be honored by her grandchildren, Dina and Lester McDonald.

-- Billie Jean Byrne Rightmire will be honored by a student of local history, Susan Smith.

-- Ethel Cordes Schacht will be honored by her daughter, Patty Myers.

-- Grace A. Settlemeyer will be honored by her daughter, Honor Jones.

The public is invited to the ceremony. Refreshments will be served at a reception on the lower level of the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center immediately following the ceremony. Photographs of the honorees and other memorabilia will be on exhibit at this time, and through the month of March. Photographs and information collected about these women will be archived at the Carson Valley Historical Society and the Nevada Women's History Project.
