Dancers complain that the floor of the Opera House is waxed too much, endangering life and limb. George E. Brickett, the first clerk at the Carson Mint under Col. Curry, died at Virginia City on Friday. He was greatly esteemed by all who knew him.

100 YEARS AGO

Legislative junket to Reno. Members of the Legislature and the State Officers returned, and all had the appearance of being influenced by the lavish hospitality of Reno. They started at the Knights of Pythias ball, and the dance was a hot mix-up. They hit the asylum, racetrack (no racing) and University and a big feed at the Riverside. "We hit the bed about the time the chickens were gittin' up and finished with some newfangled Chicago punch: the more you drank the more you wanted."

Legislative scrapbook, revealed by George Mills, pioneer Carson resident and former legislator, includes the failed "hoop skirt" bill to forbid hoop skirts in 1893.

Silver Springs, the state's newest community, now has 28 families living there, according to the Fallon Standard. Residents are generally from California.

Patricia W. Shelby, president general of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will be the guest of honor at the Nevada State Conference March 18 and 19 at the Ormsby House. The John Charles Fremont chapter will hostess.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Anthony A. Hollister, son of A. Hollister of 175 Fifth St. in Genoa, participated with the Fighter Squadron 21, Naval Air Station, San Diego, in the High Noon Air-to-Air Gunner competition at Guam.
