Nevada Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman has announced an auto insurance rate increase of 3.5 percent for the Allstate Insurance Co.

The increase is just under half of the 7.1 percent rate hike sought by the company and the related Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Co.

The reduction in the request was made by Molasky-Arman after determining the companies' assumptions were too high.

As a result of the increase, coverage for bodily injury will increase 6.9 percent; property damage, 4 percent; medical payments, 2.5 percent; and uninsured and underinsured motorist, 6 percent. Physical damage rates are unchanged.
