The Galena High boys basketball team picked up its second straight impressive win on the road, beating Bay Area power St. Francis 53-43 on Friday.
Galena (4-10) was coming off a 54-49 win over Nevada Union, Calif. on Thursday.
"I'm real excited about winning on the road," Galena coach Tom Maurer said. "We're starting to play really well."
The game wasn't as close as the final score as Galena led by as many as 18 points and led 42-26 after three quarters.
Four players scored in double figures for the Grizzlies. Tommy Myers, Derek Lorenzen and Mikey Ferguson all scored 12 points and Sheldon Hutchins added 10 points. "We had a good, balanced attack," Maurer said.
Maurer also said he was pleased with his team's man defense and its rebounding. "We're starting to hit the boards a little bit better," he said.
Galena's last two wins were impressive because it has been without two of its seniors, Nick Zuccarini and starter and captain Whip Thompson, who are both ill.
The Grizzlies will play at Bay Area power St. Joseph's tonight before opeing league play on Tuesday at Fallon. "The ultimate test will be against St. Joseph's," Maurer said.
