City swearing-in ceremony set for Monday

Sheriff-elect Ken Furlong plans to have his family by his side Monday as he and other Carson City officials are sworn into office. And he plans to waste no time on his first day as Carson City sheriff.

Newly elected and re-elected officials will take their official oaths of office at 9 a.m. Monday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center.

Furlong has spent the past two months working with Sheriff's Department staff identifying issues and taking suggestions, he said. He has also named his administrative staff, who will be sworn into the department at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sheriff's Department.

"We are very excited," Furlong said. "It's going to be quite a morning."

Mayor Ray Masayko will preside over the brief city ceremony at the Community Center, 851 E. William St., as the following officials are sworn in:

-- Dave Dawley, elected assessor

-- Alan Glover, re-elected clerk-recorder

-- Noel S. Waters, re-elected district attorney

-- Ken T. Furlong, elected sheriff

-- Al Kramer, re-elected treasurer

-- Robin Williamson, re-elected supervisor, ward 1

-- Pete Livermore, re-elected supervisor, ward 3

-- Norman E. Scoggin, re-elected school trustee, district 1

-- James R. Hukari, elected school trustee, district 3

-- Bob Crowell, re-elected school trustee, district 4

-- Sheila M. Ward, re-elected school trustee, district 6

An invocation will be given by Minister Bruce Henderson of the Airport Road Church of Christ followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the oath of office administered by District Court Judge William Maddox. Glover will present certificates of election following the oaths.

Anyone interested can attend the ceremony. Refreshments will be available after the event.
