Believe it or not, there are some things to do in this area if you happen to be under 21. Read on to spice up your weekend minus the booze, slots and that lovely I-just-walked-through-a-casino smell.
Saturday
-- "Spoon River Anthology" is performed by Carson High School Drama Club, 7:30 p.m. at Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Tickets $6 general, $5 students/seniors, $4 for Carson High students with ID and children 12 and younger. Call 283-1684.
-- Papa Roach with openers Blindside will storm The New Oasis, 2100 Victorian Ave. in Sparks, with their brand of rock. The show starts at 8 p.m., but doors open an hour before so you can see who else might be in the crowd. Tickets were $18 in advance, but if you slept on it, you're out of luck because Papa sold out.
-- Missed your shot at Papa Roach tickets? How about a shot of espresso? Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., presents the soft rock stylings of Living Picture Show at 8 p.m. , and it costs only $3.
-- "On the Verge, or the Geography of Yearning," a new comedy featured at Reno's Bruka Theatre may or may not make you laugh, but at least the price won't make you cry. Check it out for a student rate of $10 at 99 N. Virginia St. Regular adult tickets cost $15 at the door or $12 in advance. Call 323-3221.
-- Captured By Robots, Botchii and Gluehorse take the stage at Ark-a'ik, 555 E. Fourth St. in Reno, at 8 p.m. Get in to see all three bands for $7.
-- Amateur snowboarders get ready for the USASA Slopestyle competition at Kirkwood Ski Resort. The best of the bunch will qualify to compete in the Annual National Championships at Kirkwood Ski Resort. Call (530) 577-4760.
Sunday
-- Listen to Mile High Jazz Band at Esoteric Coffeehouse & Gallery, 135 N. Sierra St. in Reno, as you take in the delicious assortment of art the cafe houses. Five dollars will get you in to see the band, but bring some extra cash if you think you might like to add some caffeine to all that jazz.
