An unidentified man died Sunday morning after a fight at Sharkey's Casino in Gardnerville.
The fight started at about 2 a.m. inside the casino at 1440 Highway 395 then spilled out onto Gilman Avenue, the street between the casino and its north parking lot.
Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene around 3 a.m., according to Lt. Mike Biaggini, incident commander. The victim, who has not been named, was bleeding from the nose and mouth. He refused treatment and was released to a family member.
At about 4 a.m., the man's family became worried about his condition and called 911. He was taken to a local clinic, where his condition was deemed serious enough that Careflight should be called in. The man was flown to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he was pronounced dead at about 11 a.m.
Sheriff's deputies returned to Sharkey's Sunday and taped off the north parking lot in order to conduct a more thorough investigation. Two police cruisers were used to block off Gilman at 395 and two were on the other end of the block at Douglas Avenue. The police tape was removed by 5:45 p.m.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is conducting an ongoing investigation, according to Biaggini.
