The Galena High boys basketball team received all it could handle, but came away with a 91-70 win at Spanish Springs on Tuesday.
Galena improved to 3-1 in the High Desert League, remaining in the thick of the league race. The Grizzlies led 44-41 at halftime and outscored Spanish Springs 47-29 in the second half to pull away.
"They hit everything, I couldn't believe it," Galena coach Tom Maurer said. "It was a hard fought game. We inched away at the end, but I tell you what, I've got a lot of respect for this team."
Eleven of 12 players scored for Galena. Tommy Myers scored 23 points and Sheldon Hutchins added 14. Maurer also praised the play of Bobby Contreras, who scored 10 points.
"He did an outstanding job on the boards and just played great defense," said Maurer about Contreras.
