Sheriff's daughter arrested on drug charges

The daughter of Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of drug possession.

Kendra Furlong, 22, was arrested by Tri-Net Drug Task Force officers at 3 p.m. Tuesday after they said they had discovered a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in her Roop Street apartment.

Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said the Sheriff's Department received information Friday that there was drug activity going on at Kendra Furlong's home. Kenny Furlong suggested they turn the information over to Tri-Net, Albertsen said.

"He said to do what you normally would do and Kendra would receive no special treatment. He was going to stay out of it," Albertsen said.

Furlong said by phone Tuesday evening that his family is saddened by the arrest.

"The methamphetamine use in this town strikes every family, and we need to take every aggressive step to stop it and to get our daughter some help," he said.

Tri-Net officers went to Kendra Furlong's home about 1:30 p.m., received permission to search, and found trace amounts of meth and two glass smoking pipes, Albertsen said.

She is being held at the Carson City jail on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bail is set at $10,000.

Also arrested was Timothy Coffman, 24, a felon and transient, for felony possession of a firearm. Albertsen said Coffman was in the home and had a loaded .22-caliber pistol. He is being held without bail.
