$250 reward offered for info on dog's killer

MINDEN -- Secret Witness is offering a $250 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the shooting of a 14-year-old dog on the 2600 block of Billy's Road in the Johnson Lane area.

Someone shot the dog, named Clyde, in the back of the head with a .22-caliber bullet Jan. 10.

"He was the nicest dog," Clyde's owner, Deena Reagan, said. "I had gone out and fed all the dogs, and I left for work. Usually all the dogs come to meet me when I come home. Well, none of them did that day. My husband was already home, sitting in the living room (with one dog). I said, 'Where's the other dogs?'"

She grabbed a flashlight and began to look in ditches. Her husband, Jeff, found Clyde about 6 p.m.

"I haven't gotten any calls (regarding possible suspects)," Deena Reagan said. "It was muddy a couple of days before it happened. There's been trucks out there. It was on our property. Roy (the Reagans' son) walks those ditches every day. Clyde was in the runoff ditch, which was right in the yard. Whoever did it did it on the easement road."

After Clyde's burial, Deena Reagan pulled out pictures of the dog, including one of Roy, 9, and Clyde. Not a day goes by without her thinking of Clyde, she said.

"I surely wish I knew who did it ... with somebody shooting him and ending his life like nothing at all," she said. "He'd always come out there and plop his head on my lap and ask, 'What are we doing today?'"

Clyde was raised by Australian shepherd breeders Matt and Debbie Gray, who lived in the area. Matt Gray has since moved to Colorado. If Clyde has any relatives in the area, Deena Reagan would like to know.
