Ryan Bertucci, who will be a sophomore at Douglas High, will be competing for a berth in the National Junior Olympics Regional Championships on July 12 at Fresno State University.
Bertucci qualified by winning the high jump at the Junior Olympic Championships held June 27-28 at Union City, Calif. At the Regional Championships, Bertucci will be competing against the best from California, Hawaii and Nevada. The top three finishers at the regionals will be invited to Miami to compete at the National Junior Olympic Championships to be held July 29-August 3.
Bertucci secured the title with a personal best of six feet while beating 14 other jumpers in the 14-15 year old age group. As the competition has gotten stronger, Bertucci has kept improving. It was his third personal best this year. Bertucci will be representing Northern Nevada at the regionals.
