The Carson Cardinals had an impressive showing this past weekend, taking two-of-three against the Ridgecrest Red Dawgs, a team that features several players from Cerro Coso Community College.
In Saturday's doubleheader in Ridgecrest, Calif., the Cardinals won the opener 9-7 in eight innings before losing the nightcap 4-1. They came back to win 15-8 on Sunday.
In the opener, Andrew James went 4-for-5 with two triples and three runs, Mike Handley and Danny Rotter each had two hits, Logan Parsley doubled and Cameron Leck, Alex Tanchek and Tony Teixeira all added a hit. Jason Alcasas pitched all eight innings for the win.
Handley took the loss in the nightcap despite striking out 13 in five innings. James went 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored the Cardinals' only run. Good, Teixeira and Rotter all added a hit.
In Sunday's game, Parsley went 3-for-4 with two triples, Teixeira doubled and scored four runs, Jeff Hurzel had two hits, James, Tanchek and Leck all tripled and Royal Good, Nick Shine and Jason Knowles all added a hit. Rotter pitched six innings for the win.
The Cardinals begin play at 7 p.m. today in the Sparks Tournament at Reed High.
