Galena High graduate Billy Paganetti will transfer from Stanford to the University of Nevada, NevadaPrep.com reported on Thursday.

Paganetti, a 2001 Galena High graduate, should provide a boost for a Nevada pitching staff that was decimated by the June Major League draft. Paganetti became a pitcher this past season for Stanford.

But during his first two seasons with the Cardinal, Paganetti received limited playing time. Paganetti came to the Cardinal as a 6-4, 225-pound first baseman-outfielder, but received just three at-bats in his freshman year.

This past season, Paganetti appeared in eight games, going 0-1 with a 3.68 earned run average in 14 2/3 innings. Paganetti, though, was also plagued by injuries while with the Cardinal.

As a left-handed hitter with power, Paganetti was considered a possible first round draft choice out of high school, but decided to honor his commitment to Stanford.

NevadaPrep.com reported that Stanford has released Paganetti from his scholarship, so he'll be eligible to play with Nevada immediately.
