Carson Babe Ruth wins marathon game

After falling behind for the first time in the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Carson wasted no time mounting a comeback against North Valley in the State Babe Ruth 14-Year-Old Tournament on Friday night.


Carson answered with a five-run rally in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good on its way to a 9-6 triumph in a three-hour, 10-minute marathon contest at Governor's Field.


Carson (2-0) advances in the winners bracket to face South Reno Sunday at 10 a.m. at Governor's Field. South Reno advanced with a 17-0 win over Douglas Friday night.


North Valley scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead. Jesse Brown doubled home run run and Justin Nichols followed with a two-run double to ignite the rally.


Carson came back to send 11 batters to the plate in its half of the sixth. T.J. Hein, the No. 7 hitter in the lineup, walked to lead off the rally. Marcus Adams followed with a single to center, Sean Costella popped an infield hit over the mound to load the bases. After Hein scored on a wild pitch, Nick Smallman was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Joe Skates singled to center to drive one run home and Costella scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice on the play. Byrt Lewis then drove two runs home on a double.
