A graveside service for Herman R. Howard, 89, a Carson City resident for the past two years, will be at 11 a.m. today at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.
Mr. Howard died July 20, 2003, in Carson City. He was born April 7, 1914, in Rockland, Idaho, to John C. and May E. Walker Howard.
He graduated from high school.
He married Myra Waters in Hawthorne. She preceded him in death in Reno.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Elko.
Mr. Howard owned and operated Chevron service stations in Fernley and Kings Beach, Calif. He organized and became the first fire chief of the Fernley Volunteer Fire Department.
He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee.
Among his survivors are his grandchildren and their spouses Cammie and Jerry Jones of Elko, Thomas and Debra Murdoch of Pollock Pines, Calif., and Kolene and Steve Crouch of Carson City; and great-grandchildren Jess and Mitt Jones and Jessica, Anthony, Madison, Brittany and Alex Crouch.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
