Foreman Pearce this morning received a dispatch from Spokane, Wash., stating Ernest Nichols, 21, had died there last evening. He was raised in this city and showed signs of becoming a professional ballplayer. He was given a good offer by a Spokane Club. Last Sunday, he pitched in a game between Spokane at Seattle and won.
70 YEARS AGO
The post office will close at noon on Saturdays from now on until further notice, according to Postmaster Frank Meder. All post office employees have been instructed to take three extra days a month off under the administration's economy program.

Normal Elston presided over his first 20-30 dinner meeting since receiving the gavel from Paul Laxalt. Guest speaker was George Roulette, Nevada Day chairman, who gave a resume of activities.

Ninety Nines International Flyaway from the Amelia Earhart Airport in Wichita, Kan., began with pilots flying to provinces of Canada and the Bahamas. Lila Ferrely, chairwoman of the Reno area, will present Gov. Richard Bryan with a first-day cover.
