Carson's run in the State Babe Ruth 14-year-old baseball tournament ended in a 23-1 loss to Reno West on Wednesday at Governor's Field.
Carson (4-2) placed third in the tournament behind Reno West and South Reno. With a large talent pool to draw from, Reno West and South Reno have been the class of the tournament.
The only competitive game they've had was against each other when South Reno beat Reno West 7-4. Reno West advanced to face South Reno in today's championship round.
Reno West jused two walks and an error to jump out to a 3-0 leadin the first inning. Joe Skates came in to record the last two outs of the inning for Carson.
In the bottom of the first, John Hazeltine singled, Skates was hit by a pitch and Tony Fagan followed with an RBI single. Jason Mather was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Carson failed to score any more runs.
Two errors led to three unearned runs as Reno West took a 6-1 lead in the second. With runners at first and third and one out, Skates got a strikeout and a groundout to prevent any more damage. Skates was pulled after a sacrifice fly made it 8-1 with one out in the third.
Hazeltine and Fagan each had two hits for Carson.
