Custodians spent most of Tuesday cleaning up after vandals targeted Carson Middle School during the night.
"We were very upset today to see what had been done," said Mary Pierczynski, superintendent of the Carson City School District. "We've done a lot of work on this school. It's been looking so nice. This is very aggravating."
Vandals spray-painted about 13 areas around the perimeter of the school.
"This was big graffiti, not little things," Pierczynski said. "We are pursuing it with the sheriff's department."
Investigators photographed the vandalism and Pierczynski said the school district will file charges once the taggers are caught.
Custodians have been working at the school to get ready for students to return Aug. 26.
