120 YEARS AGO

Stepmother of Sheriff Swift, an 87-year-old lady, to whom his father has been married 47 years, is a niece of Gen. Warren of Bunker Hill fame. The sheriff's father is now 91, and the old couple is enjoyed rare physical and mental health.

100 YEARS AGO

The government is calling for bids for the construction of a gigantic irrigation canal to lead out of the Truckee River. It is to be constructed at the expense of the general government under the new irrigation law. "It will lead out of the Truckee 25 miles from Reno and follow the right or south bank 10 miles, and then easterly and southerly 21 miles. "

70 YEARS AGO

Professor Archibald Dickson, Arctic explorer and a one-time resident of Carson City, and Mrs. Edith Louise Andres of Sacramento were married in Reno. He made a trip to the north as a young man, and one of the old "rescue" balloons sent up by him was found by Soviet officials.

50 YEARS AGO

Graduation exercises for 53 seniors of Carson High School. Alan Bible, former attorney general and Carson resident, is commencement speaker. Margaret Stodieck and Charles Whittemore will talk.

20 YEARS AGO

New officers for the Welcome Wagon Club are president Mickey Madden, first vice-president Mary Blake and second vice president Jacqueline McClatchy. Welcome Wagon was organized in Carson City in 1979, to help new residents become acquainted with the city.

10 YEARS AGO

John Rodriguez and Vicky Drain exchanged vows and rings in a ceremony by Judge Robey Willis in the new Pony Express Pavilion at Mills Park. The Warren Engine Co. 130th anniversary water fight was being held there as part of the 130th anniversary.
