Obituary: Lila Gill

A funeral for Lila E. Gill, 92, of Dayton will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith.

A viewing will be one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Gill died June 6, 2003, at Regent Care Center in Reno. She was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Taft, Calif., to Ed and Minnie Harris Milligin.

Before moving to Dayton, she lived at Lake Tahoe and in Wasco, Calif.

Mrs. Gill traveled middle America in a Model T and flew planes in the 1920s and 1930s She was an accomplished musician, mastering many instruments. She was an avid bridge player. She owned a beauty salon, a music store and a ranch and was a real estate entrepreneur.

Among her activities, she was president of the Business and Professional Women's Club of America, a member of Eastern Star, a Jobs Daughters guardian, a 4-H leader and an active member of the First Methodist Church of Wasco. She participated in various seniors' clubs and civic activities in Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer D. Gill.

Among her survivors are her daughters Katherine I. Gill of Homer, Alaska, Lila A. Holmby of Reno and Annalea E. Simmons of Carson City; son, Spencer D. Gill of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She will be buried beside her husband at the Wasco Cemetery in Wasco.
