120 YEARS AGO

Jim Harrington, the man who assassinated John Sullivan in Virginia City in 1876 and who was pardoned out of the state prison two years ago, has just had three bullets put into him by a cook in Wallace, Idaho. He pulled a weapon on the cook, who was too quick for him. His wounds will probably result in death.

100 YEARS AGO

Few people in this city realize how beautiful it is at the present time. In the boom days of Carson, the first settlers found that nearly every hardy tree would grow. As a consequence, the pioneers left a monument: cottonwood, blooming catalpa, locust, hawthorne, etc.

70 YEARS AGO

A new boxing arena to seat 2,000, is under construction in Reno under the promotion of R.R. (Bill) Elder of Smith Valley. It is at 320 S. Virginia St. in the quarters formerly occupied by the Packard automobile agency. Wrestling will be featured every other week.

50 YEARS AGO

One of Carson City's best-known citizens, dentist Dr. Edward John Rinckel, passed away. He was born in Carson City Feb. 22, 1880, to the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathia Rinckel, Carson pioneers who built the beautiful Rinckel mansion here. Deceased's wife Ella, whom he married in 1916, survives him. Also his daughter, Mrs. J.D. Linstrom of Redwood City.

20 YEARS AGO

Pioneer tradition of a wagon train will be re-enacted here for the 34th year by the Highway 50 Association.

10 YEARS AGO

A meeting is to be held to consider founding a new organization for residents of Carson City and Douglas County who are interested in the history and culture of the Scots, Irish and Welsh in Nevada.
