Wes Osmer struck out seven through five innings for Carson Cardinals in their 11-1 win over North Valleys in the opener of a doubleheader on Saturday at Ron McNutt Field.
Danny Rotter and Mike Handley also combined to strike out seven in the nightcap as the Cardinals won 10-4 to sweep both games.
In the opener, the Cardinals scored five runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-1 lead and win the game due to the 10-run rule. Alex Tanchek singled and Jeff Hurzel followed with an RBI single during the rally.
Cameron Leck almost ended the game with a shot that cleared the fence down the left field line for a grand slam home run that went foul. Leck settled for a three-run double. Ryan Henry followed with an RBI single to make it 11-1 and end the game.
Leck, Ryan Henry and Tony Teixeira all had two hits, Aaron Henry doubled and scored two runs, Andrew James doubled and Murph Gardner added a hit for the Cardinals.
In the nightcap, Carl Winter's RBI single pulled the Cardinals to within 2-1 in the first and Hurzel doubled and scored on an error to tie the game 2-2 in the third.
The Cardinals scored five runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead, with Gardner's RBI single and Teixeira's RBI double highlighting the rally. Winter and Gardner each hit an RBI single and Nick Shine scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-3 in the sixth.
Winter and Gardner each had two hits and Shine and Royal Good each added a hit for the Cardinals. Rotter was the winning pitcher, striking out four over four innings while Handley struck out three over three innings.
