A wildland fire burning Tuesday afternoon was about a football field, 100 yards, from homes in Clear Creek Canyon.

The fire was burning in heavy to medium fuels and was likely on private or state lands, said Capt. Kelli Baratti, of the Nevada Division of Forestry.

Baratti said seven NDF engines and two hand crews, two single-engine aircraft, a lead plane and engines, brush trucks and ambulances from Douglas County and Carson City were on scene.

Trooper Blair Harkleroad, said the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 were open and the westbound lanes were closed from Highway 395 to Highway 28.

In addition to the pair of Single Engine Air Tankers, the forestry division had Helicopter 402 in the air and a heavy tanker ordered coming in from Redding, Calif., along with an air attack plane.

Baratti said the air attack plane acts as a dispatcher.

"They're our eyes in the sky," she said.
